This is a form to assist in determining the cost of your new complete feed using Blue Mountain Ostrich MVTM Premix and Blue Mountain formulas. It is not our policy to give out formulations and ingredient amounts except with the PURCHASE of a Blue Mountain Product. We realize you may want to know what your total feed cost will be using our products and formulas. To solve this dilema, we offer a FREE costing service. You provide the cost of your ingredients and we will calculate those costs using the actual formulas.
This form is for ranchers grinding/mixing their feed on the farm. If you plan to hire a feed mill to manufacture your feed into a pellet or mash, or you are a feed mill wanting to manufacture feed, go to:
Instructions: Go to your nearest Feed Mill, or feed supplier, and ask for price quotes on the following ingredients needed to make your feed. When complete, submit this form using the button at the bottom of form (be sure to include your correct email address) and we will calculate a total cost estimate and email the results back to you.
When grinding/mixing farm feeds, it is important to understand that farm rations work best when the baled alfalfa is ground to a stem length of no longer than 1 1/2 inches. The alfalfa is then mixed with all other ingredients to make the finished feed come out in a "meal" form. The alfalfa leaves will come out in a powder form which helps to suspend the minerals and vitamins added to the ration. It is interesting to note that birds WILL eat the fines from baled alfalfa as compared to pelleted feeds where most birds won't touch fines. The vegetable oil added to the ration helps control dust and also aids in suspension of tiny ingredients. The Oil is also an important energy component of the feed formula. Consider purchasing the right equipment to do this job such as a grinder/mixer machine. Also be sure to have an accurate scale to weigh out ingredients needed in proper proportions. The finished product can be no better than the accuracy of the mix.
BALED ALFALFA: The preferred quality is should be at least 17% protein. Baled alfalfa can usually be purchased from a local farmer in the area. Ask for any protein tests done to validate the protein level. Or, take a sample and get the alfalfa tested on your own at a local lab. Never trust alfalfa to be the same protein from stack to stack. This will vary greatly. Your finished feed can only be as accurate as the inputs provided.
